Big opera, museums or small theatres – the region around Aš can offer you a unique variety and quality of activities that many metropoles cannot match.
Within a 10 minute radius of Aš, in Bad Elster, where one of the Grand Casino Aš‘ partner Hotels is located you can find the König Albert theatre,the Chursächsische Philharmonie and several beautiful museums. Being know as a festival city, Bad Elster offers a high quality event program all year, with international stars from comedy to opera. Also in close proximity to Aš, there’s the Rosenthal-Theatre Selb – a small but lovely theatre that you shouldn’t miss either.
If you are willing to make the 30 minute drive to Pilsen, you’ll find the J. K. Tyl Theatre and the Divadlo Alfa. Four theatre companies include in their programme opera, drama, ballet, operetta as well as musicals. Since 1993, the two locations have hosted the “Divadlo” international theatre festival , which has attracted renowned international ensembles to the local stage.The Alfa Theatre is based on this puppet tradition and continues the tradition of the first professional puppet theatre in the former Czechoslovakia – the Pilsen puppet theatre of Professor Skupa. Today, The Alfa Theatre offers performances to audiences of all generations. A wide range of performances begins with classic fairy tales and ends with the poetry of Jacques Prévert.
Also within a 30 minute ride from Aš are germany’s two most famous venues: The Bayreuther Festspielhaus, a building that was designed and supervised by Richard Wagner himself to stage his huge and innovative work, and the Semperoper-the opera house of the Saxon State Opera and the concert hall of the Saxon State Orchestra. It is also home to the Semperoper ballet.
